DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARDS
Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal
The Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal Career Achievement Award in Engineering is the most prestigious award conferred by Engineers Australia. It is presented annually to an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia who has made a notable contribution to the science and/or practice of engineering in Australia. The award perpetuates the memory of Sir Peter Nicol Russell, a Sydney industrialist during the latter half of the 19th century, who made major donations to the cause of engineering in Australia. Honorary Fellows
The EA Honorary Fellows award elevates the recipient to the rank of Fellow of Engineers Australia, the highest credential within EA’s membership. It is conferred by the Board of Engineers Australia on individuals who have demonstrated remarkable contributions or accomplishments within the engineering profession or related scientific fields, exemplary adherence to the highest technical, professional and community service standards in engineering, and dedicated service to the Australian community, or in acknowledgement of exceptional achievements. President’s Prize
The EA President’s Prize is a prestigious annual accolade awarded to an individual or group that has provided distinct service to the engineering profession or the community. Their contributions must align with the strategic objectives of Engineers Australia. Handpicked by Engineers Australia’s National President, recipients are presented a framed certificate at an EA award ceremony. Professional Engineer of the Year
The EA Professional Engineer of the Year award celebrates engineers who make meaningful contributions to community wellbeing, demonstrate exceptional innovation and aesthetic excellence, show ingenuity in materials and methods, champion Engineers Australia’s strategic vision, actively promote the engineering profession and build distinguished, impactful careers. Emerging Professional Engineer of the Year
The EA Emerging Professional Engineer of the Year award recognises individuals who embody outstanding examples of innovation and resourcefulness within the engineering profession, the highest technical, professional and community service standards in engineering and the broad nature and impacts of the profession through their significant contributions. Associates and Technologists
The EA Engineering Associate, Engineering Technologist, Emerging Engineering Associate and Emerging Engineering Technologist of the Year Awards recognise individuals who have strongly contributed to the engineering profession but do not fall under EA’s Professional Engineer occupational category. Biomedical College: David Dewhurst Award
The David Dewhurst Award pays tribute to one of Australia’s earliest biomedical engineers, Dr David Dewhurst, whose work continues to shape the landscape of biomedical engineering today, and is presented to a distinguished biomedical engineer who has made significant contributions to the field. Chemical College: Chemical Engineer Achievement Award
Awarded by the Australian and New Zealand Federation of Chemical Engineers, the CHEMECA Medal (Chemical Engineer Achievement Award) is the most prestigious award in the chemical engineering profession in Australia and New Zealand. It is awarded to a prominent Australian or New Zealand chemical engineer who has made an outstanding contribution, through achievement or service, to the practice of chemical engineering in its widest sense and who continues to serve the profession. Civil College: Sir John Holland Civil Engineer of the Year
The Sir John Holland Award commemorates the legacy of Sir John Holland, a renowned civil engineer and founder of the John Holland Construction group. Electrical College: M. A. Sargent Medal
The M. A. Sargent Medal commemorates the legacy of Dr Michael Anthony Sargent, an outstanding electrical engineer and Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia who held several prominent roles with Engineers Australia throughout his career. The Medal is granted to an outstanding electrical engineer who has made a profoundly significant contribution to the field of electrical engineering. Engineering Heritage Australia: John Monash Medal
The John Monash medal pays tribute to Sir John Monash, a distinguished civil engineer and respected Australian military commander during World War I. Environment College: Environmental Engineer Achievement Award
This award acknowledges a prominent environmental engineer who has made an outstanding contribution to engineering by promoting environmental and sustainability excellence and the wider profession of engineering within the community. ITEE College: Neville Thiele Eminence Award
This award by the ITEE (Information, Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering) College is named in honour of the late A. N. (Neville) Thiele OAM, a pioneer in audio engineering standards and former president of the Institution of Radio and Electronics Engineers (IREE), which represented early Australian radio and electronics engineering. Mechanical College:AGM Michell Medal
The AGM Michell Medal was first presented in 1978 and honours Anthony George Maldon Michell, an outstanding Australia mechanical engineer who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The award is presented annually by the Mechanical College Board to an individual who has given outstanding service to the field of mechanical engineering. Risk Engineering Society: Risk Engineer Achievement Award
The Risk Engineer Achievement Award acknowledges a prominent risk engineer who has made an outstanding contribution to engineering by fostering excellence specifically in the practice of risk engineering and risk management and promoting the wider profession of engineering to the community. Structural College: John Connell Gold Medal
The John Connell Gold Medal honours John Connell, who made an outstanding contribution to structural engineering and founded John Connell and Associates in 1958 (which eventually became part of Aurecon). The John Connell Gold Medal is presented to an individual who has made a significant national and international contribution to the structural engineering profession. Transport Australia Society: Transport Medal
The Transport Medal recognises outstanding individual contributions to transport in Australia. The award is open to applicants across public and private sectors including transport operators, consultants, government, academia and researchers.
