Professor Chua, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Western Australia, has built a legacy of academic and industry impact. He has established a strong Industry Advisory Panel, developed a leading chemical engineering program, and inspired generations of engineers in both Singapore and Australia. His research has translated into realworld outcomes, including the founding of ASX-listed Hazer Group Ltd. and Ablano Pty Ltd. to commercialise advanced materials such as boron nitride nano onions and graphene. Professor Chua’s career reflects a balance of teaching, research and industry collaboration, leaving a lasting influence.

Ian is a chemical engineer with extensive experience in research, consulting, policy development, operations management, process design and engineering. He is widely recognised as a leading expert in policies, technologies and systems for developing the bioeconomy including biofuels, bioenergy and biomaterials. He also represents the Queensland Government as the Biofutures Industry Envoy acting as an ambassador for Queensland’s Biofutures industry and industrial biotechnology sector. Ian is currently Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at QUT, a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Global Bioeconomy Summit and a Senior Editor of EFB Bioeconomy Journal.
