The New Fitzroy River Bridge Project (WA) 2024 The New Fitzroy River Bridge project exemplifies engineering excellence through innovative solutions, rapid construction, and effective management of complex challenges. An excellent example of engineering success for a broad community benefit.

The project overcame challenges such as a remote location, limited geotechnical data, and an accelerated timeframe, using innovative techniques like modular precast design and rapid bridge launching. Strong collaboration with local suppliers and contractors, along with the employment of more than 250 local workers, contributed to its success. Sustainability was prioritised through the use of weathering-grade steel and modular components.
The project also created significant community impact, with 24 per cent of construction hours attributed to Aboriginal employment and partnerships with 21 Aboriginal-owned businesses.

Boola Katitjin: Aurecon, Murdoch University (WA) 2023 Boola Katitjin exemplifies a perfect fusion of modern engineering and ecological stewardship, along with a focus on community service. Central to its design is student well-being, achieved through biophilic principles that connect occupants with nature. Features like wide views of the Beeliar wetlands and natural ventilation breezeways enhance this connection.

The project, Western Australia’s first mass-engineered timber building, has garnered global recognition for promoting sustainable, renewable, and circular methods in construction, aiding in achieving net-zero carbon goals.
The project's innovative use of mass-engineered timber has resulted in a spacious, column-free building, benefitting the community and achieved through collaboration among academia, industry and Indigenous groups.
With a 6 Star Green design rating, it incorporates energy- efficient and water-conserving measures, and native landscaping. Incorporating robotics in construction and sourcing sustainable timber, Boola Katitjin is a triumph in sustainable construction.

King Island UniWave200 Wave Energy Converter, Wave Swell Energy Ltd (TAS) 2022 The King Island UniWave200 Wave Energy Converter Project is a world-leading proprietary technology that demonstrates conversion of the energy in ocean waves into clean and emissions-free electricity.

The significance of the UniWave 200 lies in its ability to scale up/down depending on the energy needs of the local community but also to provide coastal erosion protection. These factors alone (rural/remote electrification and erosion prevention) play hand in glove when considering a region such as the south pacific where many islands struggle with poor economic performance and lack of access to renewable (or indeed any) energy sources as it is without the impacts of climate change and consequent rising sea levels.

Hyperparallel OCT (HP-OCT™) for Opthamology and Optometry Cylite Pty Ltd and Cobalt Design (VIC) 2020 Cylite’s Hyperparallel OCT (HP-OCT™) is the next generation of diagnostic equipment for Ophthalmologists and Optometrists. Designed, engineered, and manufactured in Australia, the HP-OCT instrument provides complete 3D imaging of the eye, along with highly accurate (to the micron level) measurements of all the key optical properties of the eye.

The HP-OCT has been designed from the ground up to address the requirements for accurately measuring the properties of the eye by overcoming the eye motion artifacts of existing OCT technologies.
