Edward John Hooper
(1928 - 2018)

Edward John Hooper was born at Waverley, Sydney on 5 September 1928.

Between 1945 and 1952 he worked at Randwick Municipal Council as an Engineering Assistant.

In 1952 he moved to Woollahra Municipal Council in the same role for about a year until in 1953 he gained a job in Rockdale Municipal Council as an Assistant Engineer.

In 1956 he relocated to Drummoyne Municipal Council as Deputy Engineer and Planner and he remained in this role until 1965 when he was promoted to Chief Engineer and Principal Planner, a role he held until 1989.

From 1989 he was Managing Director of Barde Pty Limited, Consulting Engineers

The firm’s principal clients included:

Roads and Traffic Authority, NSW.

Department of Local Government, NSW.

Institute of Municipal Engineering, Australia, NSW Division.

McMillan, Britton and Kell Pty Ltd.

Botany Council.

Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils.

Australian Mayoral Aviation Council.

From 1994 he was Director - Technical Services at Botany Bay City Council as a contracted consultant.

Between 1985 and 1989 he was a corresponding member of the National Committee on Local Government Engineering, at the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

Edward Hooper died on the 10th August 2018. He was married to Barbara.

Between 1986 – 1988 he was the engineering representative on the Selection Panel of the Federal Government Awards for Innovation.
