Jack Edwards
EDWARDS, John Joseph (Jack), BE FlEAust (1912-1977)
J J Edwards was born in Perth on June 23, 1912, the son of Valuer Joseph Edwards and his wife Mary Agnes Sarah Edwards nee Walsh.
Edwards joined the Engineer’s Office of the City of Perth as a Draughtsman in 1935 and graduated with an Engineering Degree from the University of Western Australia in April 1936. Edwards became an Assistant Engineer on construction in November 1938 at the City of Perth and was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia in 1941.
On May 5, 1940 he married Edna May Marquis in Perth after a two year engagement.
He enlisted in the AIF in 1943. After serving in New Guinea and on Bougainville Island, he re-joined Perth City Council as an Assistant Engineer under C S Paterson in 1948 and became City Engineer in 1967. He retired in 1977.
He was Chairman of the Perth Division of the Institution of Engineers Australia in 1965.
He died in South Perth on December 2, 1977.
