Louis Challis
(1936 - 2017)

Louis Challis was an electrical, architectural and marine acoustic consulting engineer, He was the founder and managing director of Challis & Associates Pty Ltd., Sydney, which operated two laboratories for mechanical and acoustical testing. He was made a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia in 1969 and was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and Science.

Some of his major achievements were sound reinforcement systems for NSW Parliament House, an audio-tactile pedestrian crossing system for the blind, Parliament House Canberra acoustics and the Papua-New Guinea Parliament House acoustics, He also designed jet engine test cells, power station silencing systems and radio and television studios.

Louis Challis was appointed a Member (AM) in the General Division of the 2005 Australia Day Awards.
