Keith Harvey Bashford (1934 - 2022)

Keith Harvey Bashford was born on 17 September 1934 in the Central West of NSW. he grew up in Blayney and Orange before moving to Drummoyne in Sydney where he attended high school. He undertook a pre-apprenticeship course at Sydney Tech, Ultimo, and was apprenticed to Sydney County Council in 1951, followed by an Electrical Engineering Diploma from the University of Technology, Sydney, in 1960.

Keith had married Marjorie and they had children Guy and Alison.

In 1966 he travelled to the United Kingdom on a Confederation of British Industries Travelling Scholarship. Major attachments were to the North Western Electricity Board, Manchester; and Hackbridge and Hewittic, manufacturers of heavy electrical plant, London. Numerous visits were made throughout Britain to other supply authorities and manufacturers.

Upon his return he was involved with setting up the Lane Cove Testing Station, and over a number of years undertook further studies including:

• Benchmarking - Australian Quality Council.

• China Business Strategy - University of Sydney & others.

• Marketing - Macquarie University.

• Industrial Relations - University of New South Wales.

• Electrical Power Systems - University of Sydney & Electricity Supply Association of Australia.

• Managing People & Industrial Relations - Macquarie University.

• Executive Staff Development Program - Macquarie University.

• Underground Transmission and Electrical Power Distribution Systems. - University of New South Wales.

• Management Techniques - University of Sydney Extension Board.

• Contract Law - University of Sydney Extension Board.

• Accounting for Non-Accountants - University of New South Wales Extension Board.

• Protection Engineering - University of New South Wales.

His career with Sydney County Council, known as Sydney Electricity in later years, progressed through: Design Engineer.

Engineer – Specifications and Contracts.

Senior Designing Engineer.

Engineer – Substations Design and Contracts.

Engineer – Project Design.

Supervising Engineer – Transport Services.

Executive Manager – Transport Services.

Executive Manager – Engineering Services.

Executive Manager – Engineering Strategy.

In June 1995 he became Development Manager at the Australian Graduate School of Engineering Management.

Keith Bashford died on 20 May 2022.
