During his Queensland Division President year in 2016, he had pursued the following areas:
1. A renewed focus on advocacy, stakeholder engagement and professional development
Being a Strategic Advisory Group, on behalf of all EA members and the engineering
profession within Queensland, provided advocacy on behalf of EA, as the ‘voice of the profession’.
With regional groups spread across Queensland, put in place strategies to take this
leadership position across the entire State the custodian of local policy development, and visibility on behalf of the profession in Queensland.
Drove engagement with Queensland communities, key stakeholders and partner
organisations, as well as with members and non-members; to identify, prioritise and
facilitate key Industry Events that advance and improve the standard of engineering
practices within Queensland.
2. Raising Profile of Engineers Engineers are already well represented in leadership positions in Australia, with 35% of CEOs from Australia’s top 100 companies studying engineering or science. That said, there is still much work to be done for the profession to raise its profile with the community and ensure that there is a stronger voice in the important decisions that impact all.
3. Promote and Celebrate the Profession throughout Queensland The Queensland Excellent Award program was back on the table in 2016. In addition, Engineers Australia National Convention was held in Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in November the following year. The National Excellent Award presentation was happening in the doorsteps.
For his community services, he was presented the Multicultural Service Award from the Queensland Premier in 1999 and the Centenary Medal in 2002. In January 2015, Peter was awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant contribution in Civil and Structural Engineering and professional organisations.
He continues his volunteer service to EA as part of the higher education accreditation team and Excellent Award Queensland Chief Judge (2023-2025). In addition, he serves as Secretary and Director of CROSS-AUS Ltd that plays an important role in the promotion of safety in the built environment.
