PLAYFORD, Maxwell Ernest BE, ME, FSASM, MAusIMM (1902-1943)

Metallurgical Engineer

After graduating from the University of Adelaide and the South Australian School of Mines, Playford worked at the Broken Hill Associated Smelters in Port Pirie, and at Broken Hill at Mount Lyell. He moved to Western Australia when appointed assistant general manager at the Great Boulder GM Ltd (ECGF Boulder) in 1933. He became chief metallurgist at Wiluna GMs in 1934 and was appointed assistant manager at Mount Morgan GMg Co Ltd in Queensland in 1938. He was the Manager of St Mary’s Filling (Munitions Factory).
