Standards Australia
Standards Australia have recently created webpages to mark and celebrate 100 years of standards in Australia 1922 - 2022, as well as producing a small online book. See https://www.standards.org.au/about/our-history and associated links.
When the Institution of Engineers Australia was formed in 1919, it took over responsibility for the electrical standards that had been established by the Electrical Association of Australia, and lobbied for the formation of a national engineering standards association and for surveys and the collection of resource and industry data.
The Science and Industry Act 1920 laid the foundations, but it wasn't until 1922 that the Commonwealth Engineering Standards Association was formed. Its main committee comprised representatives from: Commonwealth Institute of Science and Industry; six State Governments; Institution of Engineers Australia; Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy; and Australian Chemical Institute. George Knibbs, foundation director of the Commonwealth Institute of Science and Industry, was chairman.
