Professionals Australia 1946 to ----

From Engineering Heritage Australia

More information on the organisation that represents professional engineers in industrial relations and employment issues is available from the Professionals Australia website professionalsaustralia.org.au.

Professionals Australia evolved from the Association of Professional Engineers, Australia (APEA) with APEA's most famous case being the 1961 Professional Engineers Case. This major case in the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission and the High Court of Australia saw engineers across Australia receive salary increases averaging more than 40 per cent. Even more importantly this case set the precedent for work value and benchmarked salaries for professionals that still underlie professional engineer salaries today.

More information on the history of Professionals Australia and the evolution of APEA is available from professionalsaustralia.org.au/about/history professionals australia/.

A comprehensive history of the first 50 years of APEA including details of the 1961 Professional Engineers Case is recorded in Status and Reward - The History of Industrial Representation of Professional Engineers in Australia 1946-1996 by Brian E Lloyd and Helen Vines, published by the then Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, Australia (APESMA) for the Association's 50th anniversary in 1996.
