Main Roads Department (MRD)

Main Roads commenced as an independent organisation in 1926. Between 1926 and a reorganisation in 1930, Main Roads was managed by a Board. Members of the Main Roads Board were[1]:

Main Roads Board was abolished in 1930 and the then Chairman E. Tindale was made Commissioner of Main Roads for a five year term with the powers previously vested in the Board. Following a re organisation of all Public Works, he was very soon after appointed Director of Works and Buildings, in addition to being Commissioner of Main Roads[3].
