Harry Clive Minnett
Harry Clive Minnett was born in Hurstville, Sydney, on 12 June1917. He attended Hurstville Primary School where he was dux in 1929 and then Sydney Boys High School until 1934. Between 1935 and 1939 he studied at the University of Sydney where he graduated Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Physics) in 1939 and Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Mechanical) in 1940.
He spent his first years of work with CSIR working on radar and other wartime projects.
He had a long and distinguished career centred around radio astronomy, and thoroughly recounted at the Australian Academy of Science webpage:
Among his major achievement were the Parkes Radio telescope and the Anglo-Australian optical telescope at Siding Spring. Minnett retired from CSIRO in 1981. He had married Margot in 1955 and they had a son and a daughter.
Harry Minnett died on 20 December 2003.
