Cotter River Dam Precinct
From Engineering Heritage Australia
Designed by engineers of the Federal Government’s Department of Home Affairs, the Cotter River water supply system commenced operation in 1918 and ceased to be Canberra’s prime water source in 1968.
The pumping station contains examples of water supply technology spanning 50 years, rarely found under one roof. The precinct is a symbol of the contribution of engineering to the construction of the National Capital and is an important part of the city’s heritage and cultural landscape.
